[/url] In a small town in New Brunswick, Canada lies Byrd Academy. Ten years ago, Daniel and Heather Byrd started a tutoring service for children who were struggling academically in school. Over time, the tutoring service turned into a small school, and eventually into the boarding school style Academy that it is today. Now, it is so much more than a tutoring service; it takes in school age children (ages 5- 18) that the rest of society has deemed to be too troublesome or worthless causes. Among the residents are those who struggle academically, those who suffer from behavior issues, and those who just don’t fit in socially; but that is just a large overview of the population that the Academy takes in. Major improvements have been made for those who have been at the school for awhile, while others are just getting started. Most recently, The Academy got the resources needed to start taking in troubled children that would otherwise be bounced around from foster home to foster home. With old students returning for another school year and an almost constant stream of new students with various sorts of issues, have the staff of the Academy taken on more than they handle? The Byrd Academy is referred to as The City of The Caged Birds- a place for all those who have yet to find the wings they need to make it in the world.
